T. Roosevelt NP
North Dakota is Amazing and this park exemplifies everything great about the state.
Once you pass Fargo and Bismarck the grasslands turn into wild and crazy colored mountains and canyons. At the pinnacle of this insanity throw in massive herds of bison and you have Teddy Roosevelt National Park. There are endless trails of hiking, climbing and scenic overlooks for the beginner or the advanced.
Park Entrance
The park is actually 2 different parks, a north unit and south unit which are roughly 80 miles apart.
If you came this far you might as well see both.
American Bison
There is nothing more majestic or symbolic of the American West than the Buffalo. They are massive and frightening yet somehow gracefully beautiful. I can look at them for hours in marvel. They don’t want you to get close and you don’t want to be but you can get close to hear their heavy breathing and take yourself back in time.
Roosevelt- North
The Prairie Dogs
On the other end of the spectrum you find the prairie dogs. Cute and full of curiosity and excitement.
Roosevelt- South
One of the hikes gives you an overlook of the Painted Canyons and the Little Missouri River that carved her up over the millennia.
Distance From Home
From my doorstep to the gates of Theodore Roosevelt National Park is 1,093.2 miles.
