Diamond Beach
As the ice melts and falls off the glacier it flows down the lagoon and out into the ocean. The lagoon has larger icebergs and the smaller chunks find their way to the black volcanic beach. The contrast of the ice on black sand and the smooth glacier ice creates “the diamond”.
Iceland’s Diamond Beach is on the south coast, 235 miles (377km) from Reykjavik.
It takes roughly five hours to drive to the Diamond Beach.
Glacier Lagoon
This is where the diamonds are made. The large chunks of ice fall of the glaciers and pool up here before the slow moving current takes that out to sea.
