Saguaro

Saguaro National Park - is an American national park in Pima County, southeastern Arizona. Before the park was created it was home to Apaches, Spanish explorers, missionaries, miners, homesteaders, and ranchers. In 1933, President Herbert Hoover established the original park, Saguaro National Monument. In 1994 congress designated Saguaro a National Park. The 92,000-acre park is actually 2 parks- Tucson Mountain District (TMD or West) and East Rincon Mountain District (RMD or East).

Tucson Mountain District West-The west side of Saguaro has more cacti, no question. As fas as the eye can see and in every direction……and they are massive saguaros cacti!

Saguaro Cactus normally reach heights of 40 feet tall. The tallest saguaro cactus ever measured was 78.5 feet They grow as a column, very slowly and all new growth is at the top of the cactus.

There are lots of low-lying cacti and fauna as well.

Rincon Mountain District East- This side has cacti and plenty but not as concentrated as the west. The east is much more remote wilderness…………it is the rugged, olden cowboy Arizona from the movies.
