Getting to the Maldives island’s

From my doorstep to the Maldives, it is 9353 miles. Just about as far as you can go away from St. Louis. The Maldives is an independent island country in the north-central Indian Ocean. The island chain consists of 1,200 small coral islands and sandbanks of which 1000 are uninhibited.

There is never an easy travel path when you live in a small midwest town and the further your destination the more complicated your trip becomes. The best you can hope for is minimal stops and layovers but no matter how well you plan and search, you're gonna suffer.

For this trip it was 3 flights with a 12 hour layover in Paris. The plight of a traveler based in “Middle Earth” is real. When I say “Middle Earth” I am using a reference from the Lord of The Rings movies to demonstrate that St. Louis is in the middle of nowhere

Come For the Sun

It's hard to decide if the sunrise or sunset is better…The sunset is a big deal deal here and the process seems to take a long time. For hours the colors transition and continue well after the sun breaks the horizon.

The Vibe

Chill AF!

This place is super, laid back. If you are here it is because you take R&R seriously and you want to get away from it all for at least a little bit. Splashing in the water, taking a dip, shooting some pool or playing table tennis, sunbathing, get a massage, grab a cocktail or an endless list of other activities will put your mind and spirit at ease. I started everyday here with coffee, breakfast and grabbed a workout at the awesome gym. I also took advantage of the onsite MMA trainer for daily workouts. Get swole, eat well, cocktail hour and be merry was the name of the game in the Maldives.

Wildlife

Always with the crows. It doesn’t matter if it’s the desert or the beach….a valley or a mountain, the crows always find me. The star of the show was not the crows but another flying beast, the bats.

Anantara Resort

The resort is located on the Baa Atoll in a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Anantara Kihavah Maldives is a private island resort and is rated as 5 star. The rating is evident by how well the property is kept up, the style and quality of the room itself, the eminties offered and the willingness of the staff to make sure you have an excellent stay.

Bottom Line…….This place is fucking AMAZING!

Getting Around

Maldives Velana International Airport-

The airport is small and easy to navigate. Your bags arrive quickly. Immigration and customs are friendly/professional.

Maldives Velana Water Transfer

Grab your bags and look for your hotel sign as you walk out the front door. The Maldives people are very nice and will lead you to the proper boat. Most hotels are within 30 minutes by jet boat.

Just a little hop and a scoot over Saudi Arabi and Iraq and we find ourselves in The Maldives. The warm and familiar embrace of the Indian Ocean was calling. All and all the 3 plane rides totaled 10,412 miles.
