Arenal Volcano
Costa Rica, Arenal Volcano National Park- It took a full days travel to get to Liberia international airport. It last erupted in 1968 and the footing was volcanic ash and stone.
Great Sand Dunes
The ranger told us that the tallest dune “Star Dune” was 755’ tall. I said no problem. She said you are at 8500 ft so keep that in mind. Ha! Breathing was hard almost immediately.
Mesa Verde NP
A large group of Pueblo Indians left their group in New Mexico and moved to Colorado. They climbed 8000 feet and built this new city in the side of a mountain.
Carlsbad Cavern National Park
Located in New Mexico this park has 117 separate caves. The largest cave, Lechuguilla Cave, is over 126 miles long and goes over 1600 ft below the surface of the earth.
Guadalupe Mountains National Park
This part of Texas sat at the bottom of the ocean before the dinosaurs roamed. The mountains are actually a giant coral reef that was lifted by shifting tectonic plates, including the main attraction, El Capitan. There are coral fossils everywhere.
Wind Cave NP & Custer SP
All shades of granite formations sprout up from the earth and glisten as the sun hits off of them.
The Black Hills
It gets its name “Black Hills” from the soil, rocks and dark color of the tree trunk of the Ponderosa Pines.
Virgin Islands NP
Virgin Island NP is on the island of St. Johns and makes up about 60% of the island.
St. John’s
St. Johns is an island in the Caribbean Sea that the United States purchased in 1917 from the Dutch.
