Cape of Good Hope

Cape of Good Hope is a rocky headland on the Atlantic coast of the Cape Peninsula in South Africa.

Cape of Good Hope National Park

The Cape is also a national park and part of the greater Table Mountain park system. There is a fee but that keeps the land protected and you safe because there are rangers. You need the rangers to prevent theft but mostly to protect you from the baboons.

Take a Boat Ride

Nauticat Charters-81 Harbour Rd, Hout Bay

As You work your way down to the marina and take a boat which will show you what its like from the sea and you get to the seals. They also have a plenty of goods to barter for.

The first European to reach the cape was the Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu in 1488.

Most people think the Cape of Good Hope is the southern tip of Africa but it is actually Cape Agulhas.

Fun with Locals

Ostrich

How often have you seen a massive ostrich combing the beach? Everyone has seen this tall bird before but to see one in the wild is exciting. They are massive and I found it so unexpected to see this fella on the beach.

The Baboons of the Cape

Lets be clear from the get go, these are not cute little monkeys that want to play cuddle monkey. The chacma or cape baboon are smart, fast and will steal your stuff the second you turn your back or sooner. They are always watching and they are always waiting for an opportunity. Park rangers sit up on the hillsides with slingshots and paintball guns trying to keep them inline.

New Cape Point Lighthouse

The view from the Lighthouse is extraordinary. As you gaze over the high cliffs you are hit with ocean winds that make you gasp for air. http://capepoint.co.za
