What’s Stone Henge?

Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument in England,

Its a ring of vertical stones that stand 13 feet high, seven feet wide, and weigh roughly 25 tons, topped by connecting horizontal lintel stones.

What’s the purpose and why…..only the aliens know.

Liverpool

Liverpool is an English city with 2.3 million in the metropolitan area. It sits next to the sea and the Mercy River forms an inlet on its border. It was a major trading port but its recent fame is β€œhome of The Beetles”.

Thorsbury Castle

Thorsbury Castle - Front Door

In 1508, Duke Edward Stafford built the Thorsbury castle. It is the only Tudor Castle in England you can stay the night at.

His cousin, King Henry VIII, came out for a visit and loved it, So he killed the duke immediately and took it. Fair enough, I would have done the same.

Soon after, King Henry VIII married his 5th wife and took the new Queen, Anne Boleyn, here for a 10 day honeymoon. The king killed Anne a few years later…..also fair enough.

Years later the castle was returned to the descendants of the late Duke.

Bombay Gin

Bombay is probably my favorite spirit and a gin and tonic is probably my favorite drink. When traveling thru Britain, or anywhere for that matter, I look at Google maps and chart my course and since this is usually by car I pan out to see what is around and what would make a good place to stop. It was pure coinicidence that not too far off course was the Bombay Distillery, I had to go!

Bombay Saphire- Distillery

Gin is a very Brittish drink although it wasn’t invented here. England has a worldly connection from physical location and past empire that has shaped its culture. It is often said that there is no such thing as British delicacy but more of a collection of world foods that have found its way from the various regions of her empire, drink is no different. The collection of ingredients used to make this drink are spread the world over and gathering all of them to assemble this fine product is no simple task.

What is Gin made from…….

  • Gin is centered around the Juniper Berry.

  • Traditional gin ingredients include: citrus, angelica and orris root.

  • Bombay added botanicals: coriander, liquorice, cassia bark, almonds, cubeb berries and West African grains of paradise
