Amazon Rain Forest

The Amazon River is 4,225 miles long and by volume is the largest river in the world. The Amazon rainforest is a moist broadleaf tropical rainforest in the Amazon biome that covers most of the Amazon basin of South America. This basin encompasses 2,700,000 miles, of which 2,100,000 sq mi are covered by the rainforest. This region includes territory belonging to nine nations and 3,344 formally acknowledged indigenous territories.

The majority of the forest is contained within Brazil, with 60% of the rainforest, followed by Peru with 13%, Colombia with 10%, and with minor amounts in Bolivia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname, and Venezuela.

Into the Mist

The Andes Mountains is nothing short of majestic. They sit high up in the clouds and boy are their clouds. They caress the top of the peeks and whittle all the way down to the base of the forest.

Down by the Water

Obviously it rains a lot, its a rain forest. All those drips that aren’t burned off by the sun inch their way towards the rivers. In turn all the rivers and streams lead to the mighty Amazon River.

In The Water

After hiking riverside for days it was time to get in. We found a great company that took us into the rapids and wow was it fantastic! On top of the beautiful views and scenery it was a challenging workout. Caiti exerted as little effort as possible and when we approached rough patches she wold lean back and leave it completely up to me to keep the boat from flipping and us from drowning. I would say the second half of the 6 hour trek I had lost all sensation in my arms and shoulders and I could feel the fibers in my muscles twitching…..very much like a 2 person kayak taking your lady on the water for manual ride is always a great idea.
