Petrified Forest National Park is located in northeastern Arizona.

Petrified Forest NP:

  • Is about 346 square miles

  • Encompasses semi-desert shrub steppe and eroded and colorful badlands.

  • Is named for its large deposits of petrified wood.

the northern part of which extends into the Painted Desert, was designated a national park in 1962.
