Kuyana Lodge

Kuyana Lodge-Reception Area

Imagine driving to what feels like the end of the earth and that is where the gravel road starts. You continue down for another 10km and you are at the entrance. What you find is almost too much for your senses to handle. A very large, open deck concept in the heart of the Amazon Forest.

The Lodge

The main pavilion at the reception area is the main hang out area. This is where you fill up your water bottles, hop online, get food and drinks or plan activities. It is very laidback and relaxed and you can socialize with the staff or other guests here if you so choose. Take your muddy shoes off at the steps and order a gin and tonic. Then watch the tropical birds zoom by or listen to the sounds of the jungle as you sit back on the couch.

I felt at ease, comfortable and at home immediately. You can feel your blood pressure drop and your mind heal as you breath in the purest oxygen your lungs have ever tasted.

The owner lives here and we spoke at great length. His wife had a vision for this place and bought the property in 2015. The couple and their child carved this piece of paradise out and created the lodge. It is well functioning but they continue to add their personal touches to the facility. What a paradise they have created.

The Tree House

The tree house was a nice touch. In the day time it served as a bird observation tower. At night they set it up for dinner, just the 2 of us and the sounds of the jungle and the babbling creek below us.

The Rooms

The rooms are very comfortable and private and if you want to get away from an already private lodge. There is no tv or internet but if that is a dealbreaker you probably wouldn’t be here. You came here to clean your pallet and refresh your soul.

Local Delicacy

This is not a Rachel Ray cooking show. This is a full on you will know how to take cocoa beans out of the ground and make chocolate! From roasting the beans, to grinding them down to a fine powder and adding the sugar from cane. Amazing!

Take a hike!

Put on your boots and cross the bridge, you have the Amazon at your disposal. They have trails in every direction and whatever length you so choose. My suggestion is you look down and find a stick to hold upright and place a in front of you. If you are tall you are most certainly going to face plant in a spiderweb but nonetheless just start moving. Observe and explore but don’t touch.

The Pool

It’s fresh and its clean, not much else to say about that.

Guyana Lodge is a magical place with great people working here, both the staff and the owners. I would highly recommend a visit and would not hesitate to book another trip here.
