Sakura
Sakura (Cherry Blossoms) of Japan are tied to Japan's history, culture and identity.
Originally used to divine the year's harvest, sakura came to embody wabi-sabi philosophy and shinto ideals of impermanence, hope and renewal.
Difference between Cherry Blossom and Cherry Tree
The ornamental cherry blossom tree still produce small fruits, but they are cultivated for their beauty and hybridized to produce the best-looking flowers with the longest blossoming time.
Cherry Blossom Tree Varieties
According to the Flower Association of Japan, there are over three hundred species, varieties, and hybrids of Japanese cherry blossoms. These flowering cherries come in various sizes and shapes, and several are excellent additions to the garden.
Mayhem in Tokyo
I arrived in Tokyo for the first time in March. The excitement was most certainly at a fever pitch. The term “Spring has Sprung” means the trees are sprouting, the birds are singing, the breeze is blowing, and the temperature is in a pleasant range.
Timing the blossoms
Starts in early March.. The blossoms start further south and head north by the end of the month and then really pop in April.

This part of Texas sat at the bottom of the ocean before the dinosaurs roamed. The mountains are actually a giant coral reef that was lifted by shifting tectonic plates, including the main attraction, El Capitan. There are coral fossils everywhere.
