Kenya

Kenya is a country in East Africa with coastline on the Indian Ocean. It has a population of 55 million.

During the wave of decolonisation in the 1960s, Kenya gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1963, had Elizabeth II as its first head of state, and Jomo Kenyattaas its Prime Minister.

Kenya is a Christian country with nearly 85% of the population celebrating Christ. I have found in my experience that Christian countries, that were part of the British Empire are much more safe, developed and people are kinder.

Getting there

Getting to Africa is not easy. Having gone a half dozen times, I know what to expect and you have to prepare mentally for the journey. 25 hours on plane rides is only half the story, that doesn’t factor in sitting at airports, going thru multiple security checks, waiting, sitting, standing, is enough to make you crazy.

Is it worth it…….absolutely!

Local Things

On the road

The van picked us up in Nairobi and carried us to Amboseli National Park. The 220km drive took close to 5 hours and although it had bumps and a few delays, it was interesting. I very much enjoyed seeing the countryside and making stops along the way for snacks and treasures.

Nairobi

Nairobi is Kenya’s capital city with a population of 5 million residents. In addition to its urban core, the city has Nairobi National Park, a large game reserve known for breeding endangered black rhinos and home to giraffes, zebras and lions. Nairobi is also often used as a jumping-off point for safari trips elsewhere in Kenya.

Landscapes

Kenya encompasses savannah, lakelands, the dramatic Great Rift Valley and mountain highlands. It's also home to wildlife like lions, elephants and rhinos. Kenya offers parks like the Maasai Mara Reserve, known for its annual wildebeest migrations, and Amboseli National Park and Mt. Kilimanjaro.
