Finally arriving at Nelson Lakes, National Park
Nelson Lakes is located on the South Island on New Zealand but on the very north of the South Island.
A flight from Auckland will get you here very quickly. Roughly and hour and a half.
It is the best place to start of your South Island adventure and is very laidback.
First thing when you land is pick up a rental car and then you are off. This region obviously has lakes and is a well know freshwater fish sanctuary with a backdrop of mountains soaring from its banks, a very relaxing spot.
We visited in October/ November which in New Zealand is spring time. See my rain jacket in the picture, it is best to have a rain jacket and pants handy at all times because the weather will change and it can happen in a hurry.

Alpine Lodge-
If your exploring Nelson Lakes NP this is the place to stay. Its nice and clean and the owner will get you a beer the second you unpack. You never know if you make the right decision until you stay so just a heads up, staying here is a good decision. The foods good as well.
