Lake of the Ozarks- Water View

Lake of the Ozarks is a reservoir created by impounding the Osage River in the northern part of the Ozarks in central Missouri.

Three smaller tributaries to the Osage are included in the impoundment: the Niangua River, Grandglaize Creek, and Gravois Creek.

Fun in the Water

Lake of the Ozark’s has a reputation, rightfully so, as a party spot fueled with drugs and alcohol but that is not telling the whole story. Yes, good times can be had and you can drive your boat right up many bars, restaurants and there is a place called “Party Cove”. But they also have seemingly a million other coves that families, friends and couples can just hang and eat lunch and have a relaxing beverage. Relaxing was the key word for us. My days as a “party boy” are well behind me but that doesn’t mean I can’t come here and have a great time with some great friends.

When the Sun Goes Down

As much as the Ozark’s has been developed you can still get great views of the stars! Most homes on the water have bright colors but are low impact led lights which I found soothing and don’t create enough light pollution to become bothersome. In fact they enhance the experience and a little something to your weekend getaway.

What to Eat

Blackstone Cookout- Lake of the Ozark’s

The “lake” is exactly that so the outdoors is the star of the show. Being outdoors would naturally lead you to cooking outdoors. A good ole fashion BBQ is never a bad idea. We decided since we had a Blackstone to break the bbq mold and make a stir fry of beef, chicken, shrimp and egg fried rice and let me tell you…….Perfect! After a day of sun and booze this this the spot! Master chef William J George put on a solid performance as he demonstrated art of hibachi. He is not from Japan but clearly he was formally trained in the art that dates back to the Heian period (794 to 1185).

Other Dining Options: If you are not interested in 50 minutes worth of cleanup and dishes many other dining and fine dining options are available. I have tried and recommend: Baxters Lakeside Grill- This place is fantastic! https://baxterslakesidegrille.com and JB Hooks- Seafood and white wine, here is your spot. https://www.jbhooks.com
